We just got rid of one Micra (pictured) and now a friend has bought one. He got it for £80. It has a bit of rust and needs a battery but is otherwise fine. Pretty good deal if you ask me, even if it only runs for a few months.

Sometimes I do wonder how Micras ever pass their MOT. Literally the nicest thing I’ve heard someone say about them was that it looks like a Clio. Still can’t go wrong for £80 except for right here of course.

£80 is half a day in my favorite London hotel. Such a deal!

How does one buy a car for £80?

I WANT A CAR FOR ~$120. Sure there’s the MOT and apparently scrapping is expensive, but why not at least part them out or gut them and do crapcan racing! Aside from speed cameras and big brother looking over your shoulder the UK sounds like a sweet place to be a gearhead.

Should I go out to eat or eat rice and buy a new car? hmmm

To determine how good a deal this was we must first know how much petrol there was left in the tank.

Scrapping is expensive?

You get paid here for your car and you can probably get at least £100 no matter the car or condition.

Also for Banger (crapcan) racing, you would have to have to balls of titanium to go in a dinky Micra. You want an old Jag or Volvo.

I heard that was why you can buy a running, non MOT passing car for a pence. could be wrong. still it takes at least $500 generally to get a running car here in the states.

The thing is you have to go a legit scrapyard which can be awkward so sometimes it is best to virtually give the car away. Britain is a small island with small streets, space is a premium.

They’re really reliable which I like and cheap. I really hate driving them though. Plus the severe rust problems negate the reliability a bit.

Agreed. I told him to buy since even if it breaks down tomorrow he can scrap it and lose next to nothing.

His friend bought it ready for when she passed her test. Life got in the way, she never passed her test and the car sat for two years. Now she just wants rid.

Scrapping would net him his £80 back pretty much. Crapcan racing is surprisingly expensive, me and 4muddyfeet found this out.

Plus trust me the dirt cheap cars are more than offset by other stuff. For example hes looking at around £1’000 just to insure it. Then £145 for one years tax, £30 to MOT if it doesnt need anything.
